About FreeCamps

FreeCamps answers one question — where can I legally sleep tonight? — with sources instead of folklore.

It is built first for people who need somewhere lawful to sleep, not for people planning a holiday. The law that decides it — state rules, council local laws, signage — is public, precise, and almost impossible for one person to assemble. This site assembles it: every claim traced to an official source, every gap labelled, verified the same way every time.

Free, no accounts, no ads, no cookies, and never a crowd-sourced list of places to sleep — rules, not spots.

The only measurement of the website is a count of how many times each page is opened, taken by Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookie, keeps no identifier for you and builds no profile, so the site can see that a page is read without being able to see who read it.

Requests to the MCP server at /mcp and to its card at /mcp/server-card, which AI assistants use rather than the website, each write one line to this site’s live function log, plus a fixed error notice when something fails. The line holds which of the two was asked for, the HTTP method and status, the protocol version, the JSON-RPC method, the tool name, which of the tool’s argument names were sent (never their values, so no town, coordinates, state or council), the client software and its major.minor version when it is on a short list of known clients (any other is recorded as “other”), whether the client came through the mcp-remote proxy, the kind of a refused request or a tool error, and whether the request looked like a client or a probe. The user agent is read only to tell a probe from a client and is never written. The line never holds an IP address or anything a caller typed. The log can be read only live, while someone is watching it; this site’s code does not store it anywhere. Whoever watches that live log through Cloudflare also sees each request’s address, Cloudflare’s approximate location for it and the URL; this site keeps none of it. Cloudflare’s own platform logs are outside this site’s code. The finder on the website is unaffected: it works in your browser and sends no location to this site.

Who runs it

FreeCamps is built and run by National Digital, an Australian software company. National Digital is a private, commercial organisation that also builds free, independent civic tools like this one. Nobody pays for it to exist, and it carries no advertising and no sponsorship, sells nothing and links to no paid service.

This domain deliberately sends and receives no email. To report an error, ask a question or reuse something, use National Digital's contact page.
